Podcast: The Mysterious Secrets of Uncle Bertie’s Botanarium

If you like fiction and a good laugh, then the “The Mysterious Secrets of Uncle Bertie’s Botanarium” is for you. It’s a show with the fantastic Jemaine Clement from the “Flight of the Conchords,” where the humor is simply priceless. He transports this to this podcast, where he plays “Lord Joseph Banks.”

Podcast premise

The main character Lord Joseph Banks is in a missing to find the plant known to be the source of all pleasure in the world, Heaven’s Clover. He travels in the Fortitude, a ship that he thinks he’s the captain of, in a big adventure. He’s a botanist and therefore trying to be the best at his field by finding this plant. I’m keeping things vague on purpose because I don’t want to spoil anything.

Why do I like listening to it?

I like the cast, the production, and the overall story. The writer crafted a masterpiece of humor, adventure, and suspense, and it’s one of the best-scripted podcasts that I have ever listened to, and I think you won’t regret hearing the first season, I can guarantee it.

Where you can find it

The first season of “The Mysterious Secrets of Uncle Bertie’s Botanarium” is free to listen, but the second season, unfortunately, is on Stitcher Premium. I’m not against people making money, and I respect this, but the current podcast rise is due mainly to the fact that it’s an open platform and free to listen. I’m for one, am creeped-out by ads on websites since our information is collected aggressively. Still, podcast players and the open market made it so ads are viable in podcasts and can be enjoyable even for a person like me who HATES them.
