Book: The Magic of Thinking Big by Dr. David J. Schwartz

The Magic of Thinking Big is a self-help book where Dr. David J. Schwartz gives us strategies to be our better selves and success in the areas we want to be the best you can be. He was a motivational writer and coach and published this book, now famous, in 1959. This is probably the oldest book yet that I recommended but for a good reason. Every strategy, exercise, and the concept is timeliness and applies today as it applied over 60 years ago.

Book premise

Dr. David J. Schwartz focuses a lot on “thinking big” and what we are doing to ourselves by limiting our mindset. It’s not a question of wishing, and things will come, but having the right mindset goes a long way towards success. Things like thinking like a leader by thinking that you can do whatever you put your mind to, learn how to think positively, remove excuses from your life, and much more. There are some of the techniques in the book that are available to everyone regardless of intellect, talent, or money.

Why did I like it?

I like these books because they show me a lot of what I call common sense topics that are not common. I mean by this that it’s common sense that you should believe in yourself and work hard to achieve something. But most don’t do that and expect quick results with low effort. These and other books continue to teach us a fundamental lesson. That the right mindset and hard work are the most important things to achieve success. Of course, being in the right place, being born in the right circumstances, or having access to more resources help, but they are not the most important thing. We see all the time people achieving the impossible and pushing the limits with nothing more than mindset.
