Tools: 1Password

Do you have a password manager? Do you even know what a password manager is? If both answers are “no,” then you need to understand what they are and start using 1Password ASAP.

1Password is a password manager, meaning that it will store your passwords safely and generate unique ones for each site you visit. You only need to remember one master password that should be super unique and secure to you. Some may argue that this is as unsafe since if someone knows that password, it will have access to all your passwords, but if you use the same password in all sites, it’s the same problem.

The problem it solves

The main problem with security is that people can’t memorize passwords, so they use the same with all the websites they have an account. The issue is that websites get hacked all the time, and passwords go into the wild for everyone to take advantage of. Malicious people can access your accounts, and it’s even worse if those amounts have credit cards associated with them. If you don’t believe me, check this website, insert your email and see how many hacked websites with that email. If you always use the same password, it’s more than sure that it’s out there.

Why I use it?

Data protection is critical here, and convenience is a plus. 1password will autocomplete the subscription forms with a unique password and store it safely. When you go to that website again, 1password will auto-fill the username and password. This way, if someone hacks a website, only the password for that website becomes public, and all other websites are safe. I wrote a bunch of articles about this, so if you’re curious, please check here for more information. Suffice it to say that it’s not a question of “if” someone will hack your password, it’s “when,” so follow the basic security strategies and feel safe.
