I’ve been interested in Bob Dylan for a while, especially its life and what makes him “tick.” Before I talk about this podcast, I also need to recommend the amazing movie “I’m not there,” a movie about Bod Dylan without mentioning his name, where 6 characters embody 6 different aspects of his life and work. An amazing cast featuring “Cate Blanchett” (yes, she plays Bob Dylan also, and it’s one of the best characters in the movie), “Christian Bale” and the great late “Heath Ledger.” The soundtrack is amazing, so if you can, listen to it as well.
Podcast premise
The podcast goes through Bob Dylan’s story and music, but it’s not a biographical podcast. It’s not also a music podcast, where the music is featured with comments around it. It’s a journey, starting with a young Bob Dylan struggling to find gigs and showing his music, to an actor, to a controversial figure that alienated his fans by “going electric.” You can see the Metamorphosis of someone that makes music ahead of his time, and when we think he’s done, he comes back with more and better music.
Why do I like listening to it?
Michael Hacker is an amazing host and guides you in this amazing journey. Music is important but how and why it was written is a fascinating topic to me. Bob Dylan’s larger than life persona is heavily featured and directed in each stage of his life.
If you’re a fan of Bob Dylan, this is a must show to listen to. And if you’re not a fan, listen to it anyway and become one.
